On our trip to DRC in March, we brought 13 additional camera traps (one was a replacement for a camera that failed) giving us 17 camera traps that were installed in three locations. From the four camera traps that were set up in Biandje, located 14 km from Epulu to the East, we collected more images of okapi and other species. The additional camera traps will permit us the sample more than one area at a time. When our team shares the photos with members of the cooperating villages of the many species living around them they get very excited and most are glad the animals are still there as most of the species we are documenting are very difficult to encounter in the wild.
After deploying new cameras with video settings, we were able to capture a few snippets of a female okapi walking through the forest on Mount MBia. The first is during the day, the second at night.
