What We Do

Since 1987,OCP has tackled both immediate and long-term threats to the Okapi, Ituri Forest, and local communities.

Our programs support 11 of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, advancing global efforts to protect biodiversity, promote sustainable communities, and combat climate change.

At OCP, we recognize that protecting the Okapi and its forest habitat depends on the well-being of the people who share that ecosystem—so our model integrates community health, education, and economic opportunity as essential pillars of long-term conservation success.

Since 1987, OCP has led a model of conservation that works with communities to:

  • Protect Wildlife

Support ecoguards, combat poaching, illegal mining through The Reserve Management Unit.

  • Promote Sustainability

Support eco-friendly farming, small businesses, and income-generating programs.

  • Empower Communities

Train local health workers, teachers, women leaders, and Indigenous stewards.

  • Advance Education & Awareness

Build conservation pride through outreach and the celebration of World Okapi Day (Oct 18th).

  • Monitor & Manage

Use science and data to guide adaptive management practices for OCPprograms.

Together, we're building a future where wildlife and people thrive—side by side—in the heart of the Ituri Forest
