Update on Our Ebola Outbreak Response - July 2026

The Ituri Forest is not just home to the okapi but home to the communities whose lives, livelihoods, and futures are deeply intertwined with this ecosystem we all work to protect.

In response, OCP continues to actively support on-the-ground awareness efforts. We are focused on these initiatives which are critical to preventing Ebola and stopping its transmission:

Educating community members on how the virus spreads

Helping people recognize symptoms early

Promoting life-saving preventive measures such as hand hygiene, avoiding contact with infected individuals, and seeking prompt medical care at the first sign of illness.

Providing personal protective equipment (masks, gloves, sanitizers) to our staff, rangers, and key people who work in and around the Okapi Wildlife Reserve.

The people of Ituri have always been the heart of this forest. Prioritizing their safety and well-being is inseparable from our conservation mission.
